Gene Tinnie on Miami-Dade County Lynchings
Our mission
The Miami-Dade Truth, Education, and Reconciliation (TEAR) Initiative is a community collaboration focused on “truth-telling” processes and public remembrance of incidences of racial terrorism that took place against African Americans in our community. We believe that healing and reconciliation must begin with an acknowledgment of harm and a deepened understanding of the atrocities that are part of our shared heritage. In order to create a more inclusive community, our initiative endeavors to preserve this history and educate the public, bring stakeholders together in dialogue and create opportunities for relationship building and healing.
Community Involvement
Participate in TEAR events and join a subcommittee.
Support for Communities
Education happens within the context of a larger community. Our approach extends beyond the school to help ensure students have the necessary support to do their best learning.
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
